People are always talking about the importance of a support system or an accountability buddy; even I posted a Motivation Monday about it on social media, but to be honest, I used to not believe in the need for an accountability buddy and all these Facebook groups trying to get people to connect. I no longer feel that way and I want to share with you why just in case you could scream if you see another Facebook group.
I used to think I didn’t need support to accomplish my goals.
Be it health goals, financial goals, business goals. I always thought I should be able to figure it out on my own. But in doing so, I have discovered it takes me a lot longer to take action when the only person I’m answering to is myself. And I’m here to tell you, family doesn’t count. They love you no matter what, and in most cases will support you, however, they also want to keep you safe. And keeping you safe, can sometimes mean keeping you small. It’s usually not intentional, they just don’t understand what you are trying to do because they aren’t trying to do the same thing.
I remember when I was still working in clinic, I started a walking group for my diabetes patients. I would meet them once a week in the neighborhood near the clinic to walk with them. If they walked no other day, they walked at least once a week with me. Over time, they developed relationships with other people in our walking group and soon started walking together on the mornings that I couldn’t be with them.
That’s the power of community.
A group of people coming together for a common goal. The energy of the community alone can encourage people who have never taken action to start. Can empower people to try the things they have never tried before, to push through that last workout, to say no to the cookies in the breakroom at work, to confront their greatest fears, to build confidence and to feel safe doing so.
Your accountability buddy believes you can even when you’re not so sure.
They show up for you and you show up for them. They want you to be successful, sometimes even more so than you want it for yourself. They can be someone you know personally or someone you met in those “dreaded” Facebook groups.
Now I have an accountability buddy for my spiritual goals, my financial goals, my business and professional goals, and my health goals. I don’t hesitate when I am offered the opportunity to join a mastermind or connect with other women building a business or focusing on their health. I am stronger in my community of women and you will be too. Look for opportunities in your local community, online community, or programs you purchase, to connect with like-minded women.
That connection is GOLDEN and can literally change the course of your life if you stay open to it.
Now over to you. Tell me in the comments where you need accountability, has having an accountability buddy worked for you in the past? If so, how?
Bye for now and remember you don’t need another diet, or another quick fix, you need better habits for better health. Start creating a healthy legacy for you and your family….
